The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is a scholarship scheme provided by the Government of India for students in Haryana (and across India). The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to prevent them from dropping out after Class 8.

Eligibility Criteria for NMMS Haryana:

  1. Academic Qualification:
    • The student must be studying in Class 8 in a government, local body, or government-aided school.
  2. Minimum Marks:
    • The student must have secured at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in the Class 7 examination. For SC/ST students, the minimum required marks are 50%.
  3. Parental Income:
    • The annual family income of the student’s parents should not exceed ₹3,50,000 from all sources.
  4. Selection Test:
    • The student must appear for the NMMS examination, which consists of two tests:
      • Mental Ability Test (MAT)
      • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
    • A student must score at least 40% marks in each of these tests to qualify for the scholarship. The qualifying percentage for SC/ST students is 32%.
  5. Scholarship Continuation:
    • After being selected, to continue receiving the scholarship, the student must secure a minimum of 55% marks in Class 9 and 10. For SC/ST students, the minimum required marks are 50%.

This scholarship is aimed at supporting the education of students from economically weaker sections and encouraging them to continue their studies up to at least the senior secondary level.
